His work is characterized by strong chromatic contrast, materially heterogeneous surfaces, layered media, and visible evidence of revision and physical process. His signature style, Dynamic Divisionism, builds larger pictorial structures from repeated, locally perceptible contrasts of color, density, gesture, texture, surface finish, and material.\r\u003cbr\u003e\r\u003cbr\u003eHis practice draws on long experience in street, landscape, and wildlife photography and an extended engagement with quantum physics and computational systems. Mengle began painting in 2024. In his first two years of exhibiting, he presented his first invitational solo exhibition and exhibited at Bristol Art Museum, the Museum of Northern California Art, and the Griffin Museum of Photography, among more than forty exhibitions in the United States, Spain, the United Kingdom, France, and Japan.\r\u003cbr\u003e\r\u003cbr\u003eEach work is documented through states, pigments, layers, exhibition history, and related ephemera. On occasion Mengle transforms those records into artworks in their own right.\r\u003cbr\u003e\r\u003cbr\u003eOutside the studio, Mengle is an engineer, technology executive, and entrepreneur, currently serving as founder and CEO of a technology startup. He previously worked at Google and Microsoft and served as VP Engineering for a robotics AI company. Mengle is an inventor on more than 25 granted patents in software architecture, artificial intelligence, digital commerce, and advertising, and the creator of The Atlas of Fundamental Concepts.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch4\u003eARTIST’S STATEMENT\u003c\/h4\u003e\u003cp\u003eA painting should grab you by the throat, and not let you go.\r\u003cbr\u003e\r\u003cbr\u003eI paint contrast and contradiction: in color, material, texture, shape, surface finish, composition, and individual marks. I want those differences to remain perceptible rather than being smoothed into harmony. I would rather push beyond the line of taste than approach it timidly. Painting is an intense experience for me, and I want to transmit that intensity to the viewer through each work.\r\u003cbr\u003e\r\u003cbr\u003eMy work moves between expressive figuration and abstraction. Figures may emerge, fragment, become obstructed, or dissolve into surrounding structures. Hard edges can interrupt gestural passages; matte and glossy surfaces can occupy the same field; smooth paint can sit beside grit, impasto, abrasion, or exposed substrate.
