Expression, posture, gesture, and even the smallest imperfections can become traces of experience. My paintings seek to capture that space between what we see and what we sense—a moment in which a person becomes more than their appearance.\r\u003cbr\u003e\r\u003cbr\u003eI am particularly interested in women and the complexity of feminine identity. Strength and vulnerability are not opposites. Neither are confidence and softness, independence and connection, or power and beauty. I am interested in women who occupy many identities simultaneously and refuse to be defined by only one of them.\r\u003cbr\u003e\r\u003cbr\u003ePainting gives me a way to explore those contradictions. It is also my daily therapy. \r\u003cbr\u003e\r\u003cbr\u003eRather than simply reproducing a likeness, I want my subjects to feel present.
