Acrylic and collage on canvas
18x24"
The bust of Nike sits in the middle of the composition, she was a goddess who personified victory in ancient Greek civilization. Gold paint is laid on the side of her face and illuminates the room during certain times of the day. The background features a vast landscape with an ancient Greek temple and civilians walking on the field. Collage elements of fabric pieces are added to the painting using a gel medium for the flowers and the curtain on the left side that viewers can lift and see underneath the fabric.

Angelica Candido was born in the Philippines, an island in southeastern Asia, and moved to Canada at the age of 3.
Growing up she was connected to her creativity and enjoyed her time in nature, a source of her inspiration throughout her paintings. Taking art courses throughout high school, she was first interested in teaching and graduated Early Childhood Education to help foster holistic development for children. Shortly after graduation, her passion for the arts struck when she experimented with Indian ink paintings and traveled to Turkey for a vacation. From there, she began to attend college for the arts, worked alongside a renowned artist in Turkey to expand her art skills, and is now on track to obtain her bachelor's degree in Drawing and Painting with OCAD University. She has exhibited with George Brown College to showcase her work upon receiving the award for Best Print Portfolio, is featured in Myseum of Toronto & Tea Base for Quarantine Qapsule, and is in an entrepreneurship program to launch her art business.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
The art pieces I create are inspired by history, cultures, and nature which I convey with a sense of realism and impressionism. I practice the traditional approach to art laid down by the Renaissance time period mixed with contemporary practices of today. I am also interested in semiotics, the unconscious mind, and dream interpretation by Carl Jung.
Having gone to art schools from Canada and Turkey to enhance my artistic abilities, I gained insight into the art industry and the technical skills for drawing and painting. I believe that experiencing a new country can make one think more broadly about the world they live in, gives a great opportunity to connect to more people and learn about their culture. These experiences derive my source of inspiration when it comes to creating my art. I believe that paintings should capture part of the soul of an individual which is the characteristic that makes art a uniquely individual experience.
