Newmarket based fine artist Bill Lunshof grew up in a Dutch immigrant family and had an interest in the visual arts from an early age. Also an avid gardener and photographer, Bill’s work takes much of its inspiration from nature. He has been painting for the last 12 years. He is a member of two local art groups – Newmarket Group of Artists and Society of York Region Artists.

Bill paints in water soluble oils. He likes to portray rural Ontario and often includes old barns, houses and buildings in his work. He is fascinated by how light affects the landscape and tries to capture that in his work. He also enjoys painting en Plein Air and can be found with his easel set up in and around his home town of Newmarket when the weather allows.

I've been painting a series of old cars and trucks found in their natural state of decay. It started after I painted a picture of an old truck in my friends back property and gave it to him for his 60th birthday. I really enjoyed capturing the textures and colours on canvas. Turns out it was his grandfather’s truck from the farm he grew up on. It had such emotional resonance with the whole family it got me thinking about continuing on the journey.
