Bill Lunshof
Newmarket based fine artist Bill Lunshof grew up in a Dutch immigrant family and had an interest in the visual arts from an early age. Also an avid gardener and photographer, Bill’s work takes much of its inspiration from nature. He has been painting for the last 12 years. He is a member of two local art groups – Newmarket Group of Artists and Society of York Region Artists.
Bill paints in water soluble oils. He likes to portray rural Ontario and often includes old barns, houses and buildings in his work. He is fascinated by how light affects the landscape and tries to capture that in his work. He also enjoys painting en Plein Air and can be found with his easel set up in and around his home town of Newmarket when the weather allows.

There are so many old barns in rural Ontario. Many are literally on their last legs. I captured this one recently while out for a winter hike. The snow combined with that sky was a must paint!

I'm always fascinated by textures and colours of old cars and their patinas. It occurred to me that the headlights have an almost abstract feeling about them. This painting explores that.

I'm always inspired by ordinary daily routines. I was enjoying this back lit scene of the path beside the river. Then when the rider came through I knew I had to paint it!

I love to paint houses in the older parts of town - in this case it was that sweet part of the late afternoon when the sun gets low and casts wonderful shadows across this screened in porch.

Another in my junkyard series - I fell in love with the patina of the paint on this old Plymouth and of course I love the way the pine needles build up on the crevices.

I photographed this old bus in a junkyard in Ontario - It makes me think of all the stories it would tell - if only it could talk!
