Born in Portugal and living for more than 25 years in the territory we now call Canada, I am a visual artist and designer currently developing a curatorial practice.

My work was exhibited across Europe and Canada. I participated at Photophobia 2017, hosted by Hamilton Artists Inc. and the Art Gallery of Hamilton. I also exhibited at Fashion Art Toronto in 2014 and 2016. I gave a lecture at the Textile Museum Canada in the context of Subtle Technologies Festival in 2016 and presented a solo exhibition during DesignTO 2019. I am currently working on a large scale installation and several bodies of work for a solo exhibition in January 2022.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I draw with threads and textiles. I weave, intertwine and forge links between the virtual and the material, between the imaginary and the tangible. In all my creations, I take care to be socially and environmentally responsible. I choose natural, recycled and local materials as much as possible. In this sense, I propose a different approach to the use of fibre and textile materials and hope to raise awareness to aspects of our culture which go unnoticed but which condition our life. My hope is to awaken to new ways of seeing the world and share moments of wonder that enrich our everyday life.

Cotton thread on cotton canvas.

15.75x11.50"

I am fascinated by the colours of winter in Canada. I enjoy looking at the sky through the networks of naked branches, snowy white landscapes of trees extending into the horizon create a rhythm of black threads. Blurring the lines between figurative and abstract, this piece is part of a body of work that is inspired by monochrome landscapes and developed through embroidery experimentation. Limiting myself to a black thread on a cotton canvas, this minimal process becomes more complex through the rhythms and cadences of the stitches and reveals a whole range of nuances in order to capture the visual poetry, the peace and the serenity that these northern landscapes bring me.
