A trip to many of the museums in Europe, when I was ten, inspired me to be a painter. I received a B.F.A. in Painting from the University of Colorado. I moved to San Francisco and continued painting, life drawing, playing music with The Varve, an all-girl band, and working as an design temp. I always had two-careers. After many corporate design gigs, I taught typography, color and design at Expression College, De Anza College, Academy X, Bay Area Video Coalition, and painting at S.F. City College Extension. I draw political cartoons for fun, and still play music in a Cramps tribute band. I published five books featuring my drawings of rabbits and cartoons. My paintings have been included in many local and national juried competitions, group shows, and in many years of San Francisco Open Studio in my studio at Hunters Point Shipyard.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Stuffed animals friend groups became comforting subject matter during the isolation of the pandemic. Painting in the apartment, I switched to using oil paints with no solvents to achieve the furry look. I continue to work with the toys in the studio. I enjoy their odd, artificial designs. Together, they seem to be having a sweet conversation. I don't think of them just for children—they improve the conversation in any room. I recently painted these creatures larger, which makes them seem a bit strange.\r
\r
I strive for realism but not photorealism. Distortions are welcome. \r
I work in distinct series based on an idea, but often paint the series concurrently. Many paintings include my family members, who happen to be pet rabbits.

Oil over acrylic on canvas.

50x40x2"

Thinking about the future.
