Zoë Craig is a Toronto-based printmaker. She works in Silkscreen at Open Studio and at the InPrint Collective in Toronto. She is an Art Teacher and teaches Silkscreen for the Toronto District School Board in their Learn4Life program at Central Technical School. She has a BFA from Queen’s University specializing in printmaking.
Zoë has been drawn to the print medium since her classes as a youth at the Gallery School at the AGO. At Queen's she was inspired by her professor, the great silkscreen printmaker J.C. (Carl) Heywood to focus on Silkscreen. She is an award-winning exhibiting artist with work in several local collections such as Ernst & Young, Toronto Dominion Bank, and the City of Toronto.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Zoe's creative process involves making use of multiple layering in Silkscreen using transparent coloured inks to create a painterly and sketched feeling in the works. Zoe’s inspiration comes from the landscape scenes around her and her work depicts city scenes and places she has lived in or visited and then taken photos to initiate compositions. Her goal is to make the scenes come alive and feel lively through the multiple layers.
