Jennylynd James worked in industry for over 25 years in Florida, California, Ireland, the Caribbean, and Canada. In Ireland, she discovered a hidden talent for art and through private instructors was introduced to oil painting, portraiture and sketching. She uses the vivid colours of her heritage and global travel to influence her work. From childhood, Jennylynd was a singer and musician with a passion for stage performance in Classical and Jazz music. Her recent artwork focuses on capturing the joy of making music.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Loose brush strokes in acrylic portray the movement and attitude of my faceless characters: musicians and singers at live events. I crop the most animated scenes to fill the canvas with “rich sound”.

Nicknamed "Lady Day" she had an innovative influence on jazz music and pop singing.
