Leah Brekelmans
I live my life in color! I am optimistic and express myself through my artwork and grew up inspired by the vibrancy of life. If I can spread joy to others through my artwork in this way I consider this a huge success. I am Dutch Canadian passionate about art who grew up on a farm with my art in local galleries in my early life. I then moved to Toronto and taught children hands on Art and Sciences. Every original piece is uniquely part of me from start to finish.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
All art I create is original, photographed and designed by me. I incorporate a method of painting called "Acrylic Pouring" that gives my pieces fantastic close-up abstract bubbles and details. Every canvas and frame of mine is 100% handmade and has a unique creativity that speaks to my colorful personality. I use high-grade artistic acrylic paints and complete each piece with a varnish or artistic resin to seal, protect and preserve them against ageing, sunlight and yellowing. Lastly, I construct each frame with locally sourced lumber, sand and stain each frame and attach it to its canvas.
Thank you for supporting original art.

My piece 'Jellyfish' is tranquil with a detailed acrylic fluid technique. I poured the background in navy blue and black and it has thousands of colorful speckled dots in the dark to give depth. The head and body of the jellyfish is poured acrylic paint and finally I painted in the fine composition tentacles. I then custom make and sand my frames as an extension of my painting. This stain was chosen to contrast the deep dark space without taking away from the pop of white.

Title: Purple Mountains
Canvas: Gallery stretched Cotton Canvas, varnished twice, signed and dated on the back.

Dominant Colors: Purple, Orange Medium: Acrylic, floetrol, gloss varnish, Special Walnut Danish oil-stained pine frame
Ready to Hang
My piece Purple Mountains is an abstract poured square handmade painting with its frame made entirely with monochromatic acrylic purples poured entirely from light in the background to dark in the foreground. An extremely vibrant gradient of pink to bright orange (the purples contrasting complementary colors) indicates a sunrise peeking over the morning mountains and really makes the painting jump off the wall. Orange accents were added as the last step to harmonize the canvas and complete the piece. 5 hues of purple were used from light to dark with concise planning to allow the monochromatic colors to stand off from each other. Finally, I constructed its pine frame and stained it with a beautiful Special Walnut to accent and encompass an extremely vibrant piece.
