I work primarily through automatism, stepping back and allowing the unconscious, the brush, and the paint to lead. Out of this practice has grown my Dreamscape series — fluid, organic paintings that hover between landscape, surrealism, and inner vision .I see a gentle evolution when I look at works from four years ago compared to those I’m making now. The earlier pieces often feel more turbulent and explosive, like powerful releases from the subconscious. The newer paintings seem a bit lighter, more open, and harmonious — with brighter colors and flowing forms that invite the viewer to wander rather than confront. I’m grateful for this slow maturation and the deepening trust I’ve found in the process.\r
I don’t claim a loud or revolutionary place in the broader art world. I am simply a self-taught artist who has quietly built a body of work — now well over 270 original oils — and shares it across four platforms. What matters most to me is staying true to the automatism that started it all: letting the painting emerge rather than forcing it. If collectors find something meaningful in these Dreamscapes — a sense of energy, emotion, or recognition — I feel genuinely fortunate. My hope is simply to keep painting, to keep listening, and to continue offering these small windows into an inner world that continues to surprise me.\r
\r
\r
Randy Pratt is a self-taught artist from Augusta, Georgia, who has been exploring automatism and the Dreamscape series for over 45 years. His oil paintings emerge from surrendering to the unconscious flow, resulting in vibrant, organic works that blend elements of landscape and surrealism.
