Williams is a Montreal-born, Caribbean-Canadian multidisciplinary visual artist with a disability, based in Vancouver. Her practice explores resilience, healing, identity, ancestral memory, and our reciprocal relationship with the more-than-human world through mixed-media painting, textiles, natural dyes, botanical eco-printing, and repurposed materials. Williams holds a BFA in Visual Arts from Emily Carr University of Art + Design and a Certificate in Expressive Arts Therapy from Langara College. Her practice is informed by embodied experience, psycho-geography, phenomenology, sustainable foraging, and the restorative possibilities of creative and biophilic engagement with nature. She is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, a Board Member of the Eastside Arts Society, and a recipient of Canada Council for the Arts funding.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Williams’ practice examines themes of memory, displacement, ancestral knowledge, healing, and the symbolic relationship between body and land. Working through textiles, natural dyes, mixed-media painting, repurposed and organic materials, Williams creates layered works that explore how identity is carried, fractured, and restored across time. Her practice engages material transformation as both metaphor and process, reflecting cycles of erosion, resilience, care, and renewal. Rooted in Indigenous knowledge systems and contemplative creation, her work navigates the tension between loss and belonging, inviting viewers into quiet spaces of reflection, sensory intimacy, and collective remembrance.

Mixed media on wood panel.

20x16"

I am and have always been drawn to flowers, trees, plants and the entire botanical world of wonder.
