In the original painting, the two central figures—Plato and his student Aristotle—embody a timeless philosophical divide. Plato points upward toward the heavens, symbolizing belief in the abstract and the ideal, while Aristotle gestures downward to the earth, grounding his philosophy in the physical world and observable reality.\r
\r
My painting reimagines this enduring debate in a contemporary context, exploring what we can see versus what remains invisible. Consciousness—or more precisely, the question of who or what is conscious—cannot be seen, much like faith. It is something felt rather than observed, experienced within the inner workings of the psyche or the soul.\r
\r
The answer is not simply A or B. Instead, this work invites curiosity, nuance, and openness through my playful cat and alien characters. My hope is to encourage viewers on all sides of the conversation to remain open-minded, recognizing that meaning often lives in the space between certainty and mystery.
