I've had Crohn's disease since i was a kid. for the past 2 years before that it had gotten so bad where i actually couldn't even physically walk anymore and had lost so much weight that i became a shell of myself physically and mentally. in June i had a ileostomy surgery and vowed to myself that i would not waste anymore of my time when it came to plans and creating things for myself. i wanted to start creating series based around suffering and human cost as its something everyone deals with on a daily bases. my personal philosophies involve the thought that suffering is apart of the human experience for better or for worse. for example, going to the gym you suffer physically for the cost of getting better. This piece explores the Conscription and brotherhood portrayed to young men during the era of ww2. With propaganda pushed towards them to be heroes with friends, many signed up under age or as newly young men to fight a war with friends. With boots on the ground, they quickly realized they were deceived into a false reality of brotherhood. The process for creating these pieces was a fun time. for creating the photo images i had found a old ww2 photo book and upcycled it. scanning all the pages into my computer. then i created brutalist inspired propaganda posters to use for it. i spent about a week experimenting staining the paper from methods I've used and already done through the years of being very big into collages.
