Mountain lakes in autumn provide perfect conditions for morning fog - the air temperature at higher altitudes drops precipitously during the night, while the water remains warmer from the summer months. I took this photo of fog on Donner Lake on a cold October morning. I used a neutral density filter to darken the image without changing the color.
