Prior to attending Sheridan College for the Visual and Creative Arts program Tara also received her BA from the University of Ottawa with a major in General Arts and a Minor in Theory and History of Art. She works in a variety of mediums including inks, acrylics, oils, pencil, charcoal, and photography.
Her diverse, raw, and sensational style challenges the constraints of aesthetic through landscapes, graffiti, mixed media, pop art, and experimentation. Her art is designed with the intend to produce a voyeur experience that conveys and captures the atmosphere and diverging locations in both traditional and controversial settings she portrays.
Influenced by the ideology and functionality of light in art she constructs visual spectacles that engage and entertain its viewer. Tara intentionally use light to emphasize high contrast, singular light sources, and movement. With the intent to illustrate authentic experiences of current human conditioning.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Creating art began as foundation and form of liberation, self-expression, and belief in the remedial abilities of color. Making art liberates my mind and allows me to enter into a state of euphoria. While I do have a deep infatuation with nature, Canadian landscape painting, and impressionism art. I also benefit from arts functionality to convey and contrast traditional standards of beauty and value that exist within high art. I use art to confront unrealistic standards of identity, body image, community, culture and common wealth in a commercial age of editing, filters and photoshop. While my traditional landscapes covey the transcendent capabilities of nature. My contemporary representations are designed to illustrate authentic experiences of current human conditioning. I work in a variety of mediums including inks, acrylics, oils, pencil, charcoal, and photography. Wanting to construct a visual spectacle that engages and entertains its viewers my work has become centralized around the ideology and functionality of light in art. My initial inspiration of light came from landscape artists such as Monet, Van Gogh, Turner, and Lawren Harris. I wanted to create my own style in landscape painting that captures the essence, euphoria, and natual splendor of the alternating scenery. Studying and researching styles such as chiaroscuro, impressionism, and minimalism have taught me how to intentionally use light to emphasize high contract, singular light sources, and movement. While artists such as Francis Bacon, Andy Warhol, and Jean-Michel Basquiat influenced my aggressive, conceptual, and contemporary style. My diverse, raw, and sensational style challenges the constraints of aesthetic through landscapes, graffiti, mixed media, pop art, and experimentation.
Each work of art is intended to produce a voyeur experience that conveys and captures the atmosphere and diverging locations in both traditional and controversial settings I portray. Uncovering, seizing, and exhibiting key features using light in each composition. With the impact of COVID-19 I have utilized my time in isolation to create works that provides both me and its viewers a congenial visual distraction from brutality of the pandemic. Driven by minimalist contemporary pop art my latest series explores creating art that respects the limitations on travel, and socializing. Delighting the senses and optically conveying and visiting amusing environments we are unable to experience through the constraints of our own lodgings.
