Tracy Davies – Indigenous Artist

Tracy Davies was born in Newfoundland Canada into a prospecting family. Prospecting led the family to Timmins Ontario where she remained until the age of 14. As a young artist in Northern Ontario, she won many competitions and was invited to take part in gallery shows. This led her to study art in Danforth Collegiate’s art program, Toronto Ontario, where she fell in love with acrylic as her go to medium. What draws Tracy to the easel is the challenge of using acrylic in a watercolorist style, then glazing layers and other media (ink, paper, pastes) over the initial design.

As an adult Tracy moved to Cornwall Ontario where she purchased a commercial property and opened Cailuan Gallery in the heart of downtown. From 2016 - 2021 Tracy owned and operated the 1400 sp ft space with gallery, two classrooms, studio rentals, retail art supplies and enjoyed supporting local artists with shows and events.
During the pandemic Tracy made the decision to get back to her dream of being a full-time working artist, creating for herself every day. She took the leap, sold the property in Cornwall and moved back to Toronto.

Tracy’s creative process comes from years of playful imagination and intuitive design, for Tracy it is not enough to create simply with brush and paint. Her artistic evolution has brought her to the exciting process of adding elements of mixed media, which brings her work to life and using her hands gives her the opportunity to live in the layers, to become the true author of a piece and make it authentically hers. Mixing colors on the canvas and allowing them to flow helps Tracy pull together a composition that truly shares her passion of the abstract or contemporary.

Tracy is presently working as a full-time artist in the Beaches of Old Toronto and is enjoying being back to her roots of creating and living truthfully in her beautiful obsession.

You can view Tracy’s work on her website and on social media with username Tracy Davies Art.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My subject matter can be many things depending on the area or site I am working in. I tap into my creative intuition to build my compositions with consideration for the audience and the goal of the project. Close observation of my work will bring a viewer deeper and cause many to stop and engage themselves as they delve into layers of colors and subject matter within the piece. My goal is to capture interest with bold contrasts and inspire those who see my work to pause, take in the wealth of detail, allow themselves to discover the beauty and uniqueness within my intuitive creations and perhaps even invoke some discussion.

$1,800.00

Mixed media on canvas.

60x48x2"

Based upon the Fort McMurray Wildfire of 2016. 88,000 people were forced from their homes as the Boreal Forest burned. 1,500,000 acres destroyed. The animals lost their habitat, first nations and their land, towns razed while arsenic and heavy metals contaminated waterways....all too much to put into words. The artist painted this abstract with deep sorrow while saying prayers for healing and strength.
