Abigail Dube

Abigail was said to have been painting from the womb. Ever since she was little she had an affinity for painting, and was often found covered from head to toe when she ran out of traditional canvas. Sometimes her early sessions were so intense that she had to be moved to the bathtub to contain her creativity. Abigail is a part indigenous (Mohawk, Akwasasne Reserve, St. Regis Band, Bear Clan), part Ukrainian (Chernivtsi and Carpathian Mountains, Hutsul Tribe). Having been through intergenerational trauma and family members struggling with untreated mental-illnesses, she likes to draw upon these experiences when she creates her pieces.
