Allen Ford
I am a collage artist based in Ottawa, when I am not hanging around Montreal and Toronto.
Born and raised in Toronto, I have called Ottawa home for the past 25 years where my career in advertising and design has been based. My design and creative skills have been used by Nike, Canada Post, Canadian Tire, U2, Ottawa Senators, FIFA and others. Currently I am Associate Creative Director at Xactly Design & Advertising.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I turn the everyday chaos of advertising into art. You know those billboards, magazine ads, and posters that bombard us every day, trying to sell us stuff we don't need? Well, I take those eye-catching fragments and transform them into something entirely different.
My journey into the world of collage art began with a simple observation: there's so much beauty hidden in the noise of advertising. It's like a puzzle, and I'm the curator, rearranging the pieces to create a new narrative.
In a world where we're constantly bombarded by messages and images, I want my art to be a reminder that there's art in the mundane, poetry in the chaos. Each piece I create is a unique blend of colors, shapes, and messages, and I invite you to dive in and find your own meaning in the mix.
Through my work, I hope to challenge the way we perceive advertising, urging you to see it not as a pushy sales pitch but as a source of inspiration. Whether it's the juxtaposition of two conflicting ads, the collision of typography, or the subtle humor hidden in the fine print, my collages are a celebration of the unexpected and the overlooked.
So, take a moment to pause, look closer, and maybe, just maybe, you'll find a piece of yourself in the jumble of advertisements. Art is all around us; we just need to open our eyes and embrace the beautiful mess of it all.
