I'm Athena, a young artist from Virginia, and I fell in love with expressionistic pieces in my early childhood and my love just grew from there. Along with my early passion for art a lot of time, hard work, and dedication has gotten me to where I am today.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Ever since I was young I have been creating art, whether or not it was all in my head or if it was something I made with my hands. I started taking art classes from a young age in hopes to further develop my technical skills. I took these classes because I wanted to make sure I could take whatever I was visualizing in my head, and fully capture that mental image on a canvas.

I've always looked up to artists who were different, and had their own unique quirks that you could see throughout their paintings. For example, Salvador Dali's paintings never really seemed to make sense. I've always seen them as wild creations that escaped his mind, and that has really inspired me to make paintings that are left to interpretation. That's probably the reason why I was never attracted to painting realistically.

My medium of choice is acrylic for canvas, followed by ink for both paper and canvas. I prefer to work with acrylics due to the quickness in which it drys, I prefer to paint in layers, which means I often wait for a painting to completely dry before I proceed. If I worked with oils I don't think I could ever get anything done! I also love working with ink on paper because there is so much you can do with a set of acrylic inks :)
