Brian Higgins
Brian Higgins is an American artist specializing in abstract oil paintings that course with energy and movement. Drawn to vivid colors since childhood, his artistic journey began with a high school painting class and reignited in adulthood when a gift from his wife led him back to the canvas. Influenced by Van Gogh, Monet, and Gerhard Richter, he embraces the interplay of structure and fluidity, using a palette knife to channel spontaneity and texture.
Inspired by the energy that connects all things, Higgins’ work invites introspection, creates dialogue, and removes pretense. His live painting sessions—both in-person and online—offer transparency, dismantling barriers between artist and audience and allowing the viewer to become a part of the piece. Each painting unfolds like a symphony, with light and color shifting as the viewer engages. As his practice evolves, he embraces constraints to expand his artistic language, continuously pushing the boundaries of expression.
Higgins has exhibited extensively across North America, and his work is held in private collections. He lives and works in Belvedere, CA.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My artistic cadence follows symphonic movements arranged by energy, as translated through colors and textures. The initial brush strokes establish the motion of the piece, providing the tempo and current as the tones and shapes create the imagery. This boundless rhythm allows me to act as a conductor, channeling the energy to the viewer to engage their senses and become part of the harmony.
