ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I was born in Great Britain to Dutch and Croatian parents, and grew up in Brazil before settling in New York City now for 40 years.
My work is in response to my mixed background, unpredictably fluctuating life circumstances, and peripatetic, multilingual existence, I have in the manner of such imaginative exiles as Vladimir Nabokov and Saul Steinberg, and converted the anxieties of displacement and statelessness into artworks of cool, complex whimsy – created an oeuvre that amounts to a world of my own: discrete and unique, and constructed out of my own visual language and highly personal iconography.
