ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Currently, I’m working in an intuitive manner, balancing spontaneity and control, discovering the piece as I create it. Will it be abstract or have elements of representation in it? The actual process of creation is as vital to me as the end result itself. I strive for authenticity, not sentimentality, attempting to express a highly personal and deeply spiritual viewpoint, all the while incorporating years of technical study of the formal aspects of painting. I began as a watercolorist, and still practice as such. However, once having mastered its rigors, I found myself reaching for something deeper than pure representation in my work, and turned to abstraction in acrylics and mixed media. From there, I experimented with merging abstraction and representation into uniquely expressive pieces. In process or in product, I am always striving for truth, beauty and hope.
