Chris Smith

I’m a Brooklyn-based artist (aka subtexture) who graduated from Pratt Institute in the ‘80s and I have been a fixture in the Greenpoint area for over 25 years. My artwork has been exhibited extensively in independent galleries, bars, and alternative spaces throughout Brooklyn. I also host figure drawing sessions, collaborate with local artists and businesses, and curate art shows in the neighborhood. I like to say that though I’m not FROM Brooklyn, I am OF Brooklyn
I’m deeply engaged in the arts community as both an artist and curator. For over two decades, I have orchestrated art shows throughout Greenpoint, partnering with organizations like GoGreen Brooklyn, Greenpoint Gallery Night, and the Northside Alliance, as well as participating in events like Greenpoint Open Studios and Bushwick Open Studios. My work has appeared on numerous productions including Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Law & Order: SVU, Elementary, The Blacklist, Saturday Night Live, Bull, The Good Wife, Ink Masters, and Instinct.
I started out making band flyers and have designed record covers for GG Allin, Johnny Thunders, Television, the Dickies, and countless bands that you’ve never heard of. Now, I run my own creative studio working with non-profits, vineyards, beverage brands and small businesses. Additionally, I've designed a line of Greenpoint-themed t-shirts inspired by classic punk rock icons.
