Constanza Gardeazábal is an experimental artist, environmentalist, educator, dancer, and equine facilitator; in short: a lover of life. Her artistic journey began at a young age at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Later, she continued her studies in Toronto at OCAD followed by four years at University of Guelph. Throughout her artistic career, which now spans over 25 years, Constanza has participated in solo and group shows. Her pieces hang in private Canadian, Colombian, Italian, and German art collections.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My artistic process is an organic conversation with the subject, the piece, and, the viewer. 

As an environmentalist, I experience our natural world with awe and curiosity. As an artist, I aim to express that elated sensation through colour.  While I’m physically adding layers onto the painting, I’m removing my constructed illusions of reality to reveal its essence with playfulness and joy.
Even though each piece is the result of many sketches and studies; the images continue to change right on the panel up until the last strokes are applied. It’s a dance, a push and pull, a play between the feeling the piece wants to express and the intellectual application of colour theory and composition.
