Courtney Simonaitis is a self taught intuitive mixed media artist based in Southern Ontario, Canada. She's known for her unique vibrant, colourful acrylic and mixed media paintings created in her small studio that used to be a bedroom in the heart of her home.
With an aesthetic eye for colour and her LOVE for nature, Courtney is continuously driven to develop and evolve her artistic learning through paint play and media experimentation. This ever evolving progress is perceptible within her unique artworks. Bright, intuitive and free flowing with little pre-planned outcome of the finished composition. Getting lost in this creative process allows the layers and colour relationships to direct individual compositions organically, giving each piece an aesthetically pleasing quality .
The inspiration for her art usually comes from within like a diary, expressing her moods. Each painting begins with a colour obsession, a dream or constant thought and evolves.
Art is my therapy and diary. I am inspired by the beauty of nature and also my emotions. Being able to do what my mind tells me and able to express myself or my moods is why I love this journey so much. It releases a lot of my emotions, which makes me grateful to have that outlet. I find it easier to paint my feelings than expressing myself or my emotions without speaking it in words. I’m able to make others feel something or see differently, from the outside world. My technique is letting everything flow, with no worries, or someone there to judge me, I’m finally able to be myself when I pick up that paint brush, I don’t always have a plan as I’m intuitive, but when I feel something needs to be said, ill continue on until I feel I’ve said enough.
I paint with acrylics and inks to create my bright, calming, moody intuitive and free flowing artworks which are inspired by the natural beauty of nature and my emotions. I’m constantly in awe of the sky, admiring the ever changing cloud formations, sunsets and colour palettes. Nature’s water in any formation, the waves crashing into the rocks or when it's just calm and still, the forest smells, or the fog in between the trees.
My art is created with many layers, soul work, emotions, and devotion. I love to explore and try different forms of painting as well. I think it’s invigorating to the soul to change things out once in a while.
My creative goal is to inspire you, the viewer, to slow down and reconnect. I believe my playful use of colour and texture is an invitation beckoning you to focus on the senses and experience a mindful shift in perspective in the moment. I try to capture all the textures that I see and feel, out in nature and try to replicate it as much as I can.
