Declan A.M. David is a painter who explores Black sorrow and joy through bold, colour rich expressionist work. A 2023 graduate of OCAD University’s Digital Painting and Expanded Animation program, he brings a strong storytelling approach to everything he creates.
Working mainly with acrylic and spray paint on canvas or glass, Declan blends loose, energetic marks with stylized figures and vivid palettes. Influenced by cartoons, graffiti, and his Caribbean heritage, his portraits and landscapes capture quick, powerful emotional moments.
He often uses saturated reds, oranges, purples, and cool blues to create scenes driven by emotion rather than realism, representing both the undertones found in Black skin and the sunsets of Trinidad, showcasing the depth and vibrancy of Black experiences.
