DUYGU KAHYA

Duygu Kahya is a multidisciplinary visual artist whose work explores the inner journey of human emotions through color, geometry, and layered compositions. With an interest in art dating back to childhood, the artist’s practice is shaped by a balance between intuitive expression and structured forms.
After receiving various trainings in art and design in Turkey, the artist completed academic university studies in International Relations. Artistic knowledge and practice continue to be developed through certificate programs, workshops, and ongoing art education. Early drawing abilities and a strong desire to create gradually evolved alongside experience as an art collector. In 2020, the artist founded an online gallery, which reignited artistic production and increased the visibility of the work.
Following relocation to Canada, the artist developed the Silhouettes Series, inspired by the country’s multicultural structure and the diversity of human identities. In this series, the coexistence of different individuals is interpreted through an abstract visual language composed of separating, merging, and transforming silhouette forms. In the Pyramid, Illusion, and Chess series, concepts such as balance, awareness, transition, and strategy are expressed through sharp geometric structures, layered surfaces, and intuitive color transitions.
Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, the artist creates a sense of depth and movement through masking techniques, contrasting tones, and soft color gradations. The works possess a clear, architectural visual language that invites the viewer into an inner balance and contemplative journey—where geometry meets intuition and structure converges with emotion.
The artist’s works have been exhibited in galleries and auction houses in Turkey, including Atlas Art Gallery, Sancak Auction House, and Galeri Arts. Currently living and working in Ottawa, Canada, the artist is a member of the Kanata Art Club and actively participates in the club’s exhibitions. In 2025, the artist took part in CATWAO’s International Women’s Day art event, presenting work to Canadian audiences. Continuing artistic production on an international scale, the artist views art as a means of building connections between cultures, identities, and inner worlds.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My work explores the inner journey of human emotion through
color, geometry, and layered composition. Each painting becomes a reflection of personal transformation — an attempt to translate intangible feelings into visual form. I use contrasting tones, gradients, and sharpedged shapes such as triangles, squares, and cubes to create a dynamic balance between control and spontaneity. In my Silhouette series, I focus on the diversity of human existence, expressing individuality through abstract silhouettes that merge and separate like shifting reflections. The Pyramid series emphasizes harmony within precision, where vivid yet balanced colors coexist in structured forms that symbolize stability and self-awareness. In my Illusion series, I explore the beauty of transition — the soft gradation of colors and layers that evoke depth, uncertainty, and motion. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, I seek to evoke a sense of inner balance and connection. Through the rhythm and contrast of colors, I invite viewers to experience the silent dance of emotions — where geometry meets intuition and the boundaries between reality and perception blur
