Elena Godina

Elena Godina is a Ukrainian artist and brand designer based in the Bay Area. Born in a small town by the Black Sea in Crimea, she studied art and architecture in Kyiv, building a strong foundation in classical artistic education. After pursuing a career in design, she returned to her artistic roots, embracing a new creative chapter inspired by the nature of the Bay Area. Her large-format paintings transform California's diverse flora into bold explorations of color, form, and scale that challenge conventional representations of the natural world.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Elena Godina's recent work intersects botanical reverence and geometric abstraction. Godina found herself captivated by California’s coastal flora—vastly different from her native coastal Crimean landscape—this cultural and environmental transition became a center point in this recent collection.

Godina's large-format paintings transform California's diverse flora into bold explorations of color, form, and scale that challenge conventional representations of the natural world. Her approach is characterized by deliberate magnification—enlarging floral elements to reveal their architectural complexity while simultaneously reducing them to their essential geometric properties. This technique creates a visual tension between recognition and abstraction that invites viewers to observe a life of its own.
