Heather Lockhart
Heather Lockhart was born and raised in Sarnia ON Canada, where she currently resides. Her passion for the arts started at a very young age. She recalls a love for “all things creative” from as far back as her
memory serves, even choosing to stand and watch “artists at work” in theme parks, over exhilarating rides.
While studying her artistic journey, she discovered that she had always been attracted to contemporary, abstract things. She enjoys modern architecture, gestural sculptures, organic shapes, textures,
and loose abstract paintings, all of which can be found throughout her home today.
Her “breadcrumb” story of how she returned to her artistic roots is told with excitement and
passion. She is inspired by her spiritual life, the great outdoors, and the beauty of all creation.
It is not uncommon to find her wandering through the woods or along the ocean shore collecting organically shaped pieces of sea fan, textured coral, interesting pods, etc., always thinking about their beauty, and how she can incorporate them into her work.
This artist does not like to be confined to any one subject, but rather uses her love of texture,
layers, movement and color, to create unique works in many different genres.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Through the use of textural substances, mark making, movement and color, I create acrylic mixed media paintings in many different genres, both
abstract and representational.
My inquisitive and experimental nature often produces “unpredictable results”, bringing excitement, and at times turning my practice into an
exploratory study that leads to the most interesting and unique works.
Inspiration often comes from a song lyric or verse that has been ruminating in my mind, and can sometimes be found embedded within the work.
Creating is a contemplative practice that allows me to reach deep within myself to express meaningful thoughts, aspirations, and life challenges, all
the while pursuing what I ultimately long for… “Freedom”.
My desire is to create beautiful contemporary art that expresses my voice
and draws its viewers into deeper reflection through the work.

The Beautiful Terrible Cross - in wood floating frame.
Inspired by a song lyric by Selah (see below)
There is a beautiful terrible cross
Where though You committed no sin
Savior, You suffered the most wicked fate
On the cruelest creation of men
Yet on that beautiful terrible cross
You did what only You could
Turning that dark inspired evil of hell
Into our soul's greatest good
We see the love that You showed us
We see the life that You lost
We bow in wonder and praise You
For the beautiful terrible cross
There on that beautiful terrible cross
Though darkness was strong on that hill
You remained sovereign, Lord, still in control
As Your perfect plan was fulfilled
We see the love that You showed us
We see the life that You lost
We bow in wonder and praise You
For the beautiful terrible cross
Oh, we gained the riches of Heaven
Jesus, You paid the horrible cost
We stand forgiven and praise You
For the beautiful terrible cross.

Many of your senses are awakened with this cozy, yet wintery scene.
The very fibre of the forest is evident in the rich textures found throughout this sleepy slumbery scene.
Feel the crisp fresh air, see and hear the frigid rushing water, notice the beaty of nature and it's intersting textures all around, and don't forget to take notice of the dams. Are the beavers still snuggled together, keeping warm with their families?

Through the use of many different handmade papers, textures, metals etc, I like to explore and experiment until I can produce exciting results.
While I am creating, I often think about how we all have different life experiences, stories, good, and bad... but together they are “our life”. Just like all the unique elements I use, when woven altogether, they create something beautiful “Out of Nothing”.

While I am creating, I often think about how we all have different life experiences, stories, good, and bad... but together they are “our life”. Just like all the unique elements I use, when woven altogether, they create something beautiful “Out of Nothing”.

Acrylic and mixed media collage on canvas.
18x24"
This collage is designed from many different objects, papers, acrylic skins, etc. I love to experiment using different textures, bringing them together to form a harmonious intriguing work of art.
With each textural element that I incorporate into my collage work, I am reminded that just like in life, we all have different experiences, stories, good and bad... but together they are "our life".
What truly amazes me is, how all those things woven together can create something beautiful if we allow them to. Making the right choices to use our different life experiences to strengthen and inform us, can cause us to create something beautiful... OUT OF NOTHING.

When I begin my prayer with Adoration - it allows the "pulse" of my prayer to be thrust from a different mindspace. It causes me to focus less on myself and more on God, His generous gifts to me, and His attentive work in my life and in the lives of others.

This textural work was inspired by a song Lyric by The Belonging Co, titled "Let Faith Rise Up"
As I watch and listen to the waves as they eb and flow, I hear my heart cry out in my chest
"Let Faith Rise up, O heart believe, Let Faith Rise up in me"
"Let Faith Rise up, O heart believe, Let Faith Rise up in me"
See partial lyrics below
I don't want to be afraid
Every time I face the waves
I don't want to be afraid
I don't want to be afraid
I don't want to fear the storm
Just because I hear it roar
I don't want to fear the storm
I don't want to fear the storm
I'm not gonna be afraid
'Cause these waves are only waves
Oh, I'm not gonna be afraid
I'm not gonna be afraid
I'm not gonna fear the storm
You are greater than its roar
I'm not gonna fear the storm
Oh, I'm not gonna fear at all, yeah
Peace be still
Say the word and I will
Set my feet upon the sea
Till I'm dancing in the deep, oh
Peace be still
You are here so it is well
Even when my eyes can't see
I will trust the voice that speaks
Let faith rise up, Oh heart believe
Let faith rise up in me.
Let faith rise up, Oh heart believe
Let faith rise up in me
