Irina Laskin

Irina Laskin is Toronto based contemporary artist whose vibrant, expressive paintings explore the relations between form, color, texture, and composition. Working primary in abstract still life, she transforms familiar object into dynamic visual arrangements where contour, movement, and layered structure become central elements of the work.
Born in Kharkiv, Ukraine, Irina Laskin developed a passion for art at an early age. She earned bachelor’s degree in both Fine Art and Architecture, receiving intensive classical training that continues to influence her artistic practice. Her work re reflects the expressive qualities of Impressionism, The bold design of Art Deco, and the experimental of spirit of the Avant-Garde, while maintaining a distinctly contemporary voice.
After relocating to Toronto, she worked as an architect and designer while continuing to develop her painting through extensive workshops, and independent study. She later chose to dedicate herself fully to career as professional artist.
Her work has been exhibited in Canada and the United States, and is held in private collections internationally. In 2026, she received the “Creative Innovation Award” in the Contemporary category at an international juried exhibition presented by the Canadian Artist Association.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
As both an artist and architect, I have always been fascinated by the way forms related to one another. My architectural background has shaped the way I see the world – not as isolated objects, but as elements than can be transformed, rearranged, and brought together to create meaningful compositions.
Rather than show reality, I seek to reinterpret it. Through brushstroke, vibrant color, and layered forms, I transform everyday subjects into dynamic visual experiences that encourage viewers to look beyond the recognizable and discover new relationship between object, space, and emotion.
For me painting is an act of designing as much as creating – where intuition meets structure, and every contour contributes to the harmony of the composition.
