My name is Jennifer Lee Abrantes. I am an abstract artist based in Lorraine, Quebec. I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education from Concordia University. My connection to art began in early childhood, where drawing was a constant presence in my daily life. By the age of fourteen, I had already begun shaping my artistic identity, creating the name “JLeeA,” which I continue to carry in my professional practice.

From an early age, I was drawn to painting with thick, tactile layers, seeking not only to have viewers see my work but to feel it as well. This sensibility remains at the core of my practice today, guiding my exploration of texture, material, and surface. After several years devoted to professional pursuits outside the arts, I returned to painting in 2023, reestablishing my practice and renewing my commitment to artistic exploration. I maintain a dedicated studio practice rooted in both discipline and curiosity.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My work is rooted in the belief that art can be experienced as much as it is seen.

Working primarily with acrylic paint and resin, I create abstract compositions that explore emotion, transformation, and self-discovery through colour, movement, depth, and layered texture. I am drawn to the physicality of the materials and the way light interacts with each surface, creating a sense of dimension and presence that shifts with the viewer’s perspective.

Although my work varies in scale, I am particularly drawn to larger formats that allow the viewer to become immersed in the piece and experience it on a more sensory level.

My paintings are intentionally open to interpretation. Rather than telling the viewer what to see or feel, I invite them to bring their own experiences to the work. Pause, connect, and discover something personal within it.

A painting becomes truly meaningful when it continues to evoke something long after the first glance.
