Joanne Chew is an abstract artist based in Los Angeles, California. Her favorite classes in school while growing up in San Francisco were painting, drawing, dancing, and music. She went on to major in theatre and eventually moved to Southern California to pursue an acting career. She rediscovered her love of painting a few years ago when a girlfriend invited her to a wine & painting event, and she reconnected with how calming creating artwork could be.

Since then, she’s gravitated towards crafting spontaneous abstract pieces. “I like to paint the thoughts in my head, without overanalyzing or censoring them. I’ll start with an idea but then I just let everything run wild and see what ends up manifesting on the canvas. It’s incredibly liberating.”

She specializes in bold, vibrant colors and draws inspiration from her life experiences and through all the interesting people she gets to meet. Her piece, "Aurora Borealis" was the 2nd Place Winner of the SFS Artfest 2023 Juried Artwork Competition. She earned Honorable Mentions in Teravarna Gallery’s 9th ABSTRACT and 4th WATER International Juried Art Competitions. Her work was also seen in the successful group exhibit, "Beyond Boundaries," curate by Marc Raphael at Art 2 Art District in Los Angeles, "May Art Heal Your Soul," at Laguna Art Gallery, at Art Share Los Angeles in the "CANCEPTUAL 2022" exhibit, curated by renowned street artist, Man One, and at “ Love Los Angeles Style” curated by Eddie Donaldson and Sugar Press Art at The Last Bookstore. She especially enjoys using her art to help further philanthropic and activism initiatives.
