BEHIND EVERY CREATION

Juliana Bravo (b.1977) Colombian painter, preliminary drawer and a restless creator. At the end of the 90's she traveled to Florence, Italy to study painting and art history, then she went to Mexico to study fine arts and finished her degree in Bogota, Colombia.

Juliana worked for Channel Custom Jewelry department in London, that experience led to aligning her preliminary drawings with jewelry that in this case were ancestral techniques from her mother land. In that same time she accomplished a master degree in Contemporary art and design at Christies Education.

Juliana returns to Colombia with her husband and child. Where she opened a studio space that became the epicenter of art for the whole community. Showcasing her work and other artists, this space became a creative atmosphere for whoever wanted to explore painting techniques with her guidance.

The jewelry, conceived as three dimensional drawing, became the main tool for her designs. The handcraft, fine gold and silver threads molded in a specific way, has become a trait that makes her work unique amongst Colombia´s fashion and art lovers.
The paintings are a mix of acrylics with textiles and drawings, that she overlaps over a canvas or a ready made mother mary sculpture.

As her exploration continues, Juliana has started to embarque in NFT, with illustrations that honor the meaning and symbolism of motherhood.

Juliana currently lives in Burlington, Canada with her family, where she is looking to expand her brand .

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

The visual language of Juliana Bravo is built using free-flowing marks that incorporates a unique visual composition of textures and symbols that are recognizable in the preliminary drawing from the sculpture jewelry that the artist creates.
Through this language Juliana Bravo presents the viewer with an abstracted interpretation of ancestral jewelry techniques and words as a meditative pictorial texture. Regardless of the medium, Juliana Bravo´s distinctive authorship transcends the boundaries of both the surface and imagination.
