Katie Simmons

Katie is an Oregon-based artist creating modern digital landscape and abstract art inspired by the Pacific Northwest coastline. Her work centers on layered color, simplified forms, and bold contrasts that capture the energy and movement of coastal environments rather than exact realism. She works intuitively, building scenes through experimentation and repetition, allowing color and shape to guide each piece. Many landscapes begin as familiar coastal views and evolve into expressive compositions, while her abstract work sometimes incorporates the ocean and sand itself to create one-of-a-kind textures. She didn’t always consider herself an artist, and letting go of expectations and trusting curiosity changed how she approaches her work, a mindset that continues to shape the way she creates today.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I’m inspired by the coastal community I live in and the views I see every day. What excites me most is translating those familiar places into bold, joyful color. By combining landscape and abstraction, I get to share how this coastline feels to me rather than how it looks. Making this work is a way of celebrating place, color, and the happiness I find in both.
