Kylie Sandford

Born in Toronto, Kylie Sandford currently lives and works in Estrie, Québec, Canada. Kylie completed her BFA at Concordia University, Montreal, which included studies in Nîmes, France. After moving closer to nature in 2008 from the city, the importance of the natural environment and the benefits of our relationship to it, took over in her artwork. The intent to focus on the small worlds existing just under foot became a way to clear away the noise and find calm. Primarily an oil painter, Kylie is also recently drawing with soft pastel on paper. She recreates the subtleties of light and pattern with resonance, depth and excitement in her landscapes.
Kylie’s work has received awards such as the Dry Media Award with Jackson’s Painting Prize 2023, grant funding with the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec (CALQ), First prize with Rêves d’automne, Baie St Paul, Qc., as well as Honorable mention with the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA) in Toronto. She is a professional member of the Le Regroupement des Artistes en Arts Visuels du Québec (RAAV) and the Conseil des Métiers d’Arts du Québec / Craft Council (CMAQ).
Her work can be found in private collections internationally.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

The focus of my paintings is about experiencing a connection to nature with the use of enticing colour, patterns and intimate viewpoints. The compositions found in water and lichens, rocks and plants, aim to be immersive reminders of the essence of these living worlds we might take for granted. The landscape that surrounds me is where I can find those moments of connection to the land and water that inform my work.
