ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I try to approach my art with an unyielding spirit of creative risk-taking, constantly pushing the boundaries of conventional artistic forms and approaches. I believe that the connection between the viewer and the art is of utmost importance, and I strive to convey this connection through the tone of my pieces. I have a deep appreciation for the human form and the power it holds to convey emotions and tell stories. I focus on portraying black subjects in a beautiful and carefree light, challenging stereotypes, and celebrating African-American representation. By showcasing intergenerational and familial love, as well as black joy, I create spaces for positive and empowering narratives to be shared. I create these artworks using materials such as oil and acrylic paint or colored and charcoal pencils sometimes using an integration of all four. My artistic vision is rooted in empowerment, representation, and a deep appreciation for the beauty and resilience of the human experience.
