ARTIST’S STATEMENT
In Mash Ritchie’s work, mark making becomes a gesture of insistence—a quiet resistance to disappearance. Working between drawing and painting, she builds restless, layered compositions that flicker between presence and erasure. Charcoal scribbles, acrylic pulls and lines of colourful pastels; all point to a kind of searching, not for resolution, but for resonance.
Her work often explores fragility, mortality, and the fleeting. But not with solemnity—more like urgency, like catching something before it slips away. There’s a kind of care in the mess, a refusal to polish, a belief that what’s overlooked or in-process might be the most honest place to speak from. Her work lingers in the half-formed and the nearly-gone, where emotion and abstraction meet.
