Mei is a contemporary artist with studios in New York City and Mougins, whose work plays with perception and intuition.

Mei creates acrylic paintings where familiar environments subtly obey impossible or incongruous rules, thereby influencing the way audiences emotionally process what they see. Her compositions often integrate logical or spatial paradoxes into warm, leisurely worlds. In doing so, Mei presents a unique body of work at the intersection of elegance and play, where curiosity is rewarded with multiple visual discoveries.

Mei’s practice is informed by an unusually interdisciplinary background spanning science, medicine, and brand design. She holds degrees in physics, medical engineering and business from Harvard University. Prior to focusing exclusively on her studio practice, she led branding and advertising agencies in New York City, including founding and scaling her own award-winning marketing firm.

This background informs the core tenet of Mei’s fine art practice: when integrated well, intelligence and beauty together generate some of the most powerful emotions. To achieve this, Mei treats her canvas as her perceptual playground: an exploration of how color, logic and structure can drive and evade intuition.

Mei’s work has been exhibited in group shows across the U.S. and internationally, including London, Monaco, Barcelona and Madrid. Her work is held in American, European and Asian private collections.

I create paintings that reward curiosity.

My work plays with perception and intuition, where familiar environments subtly obey impossible or incongruous rules, influencing the way my audiences emotionally process what they see. For example, floating pool rings become a 3D paradox, architectural spaces appear to bend logic, and folded geometric structures appear sculptural and fluid. Through these visual shifts, I invite my viewers into worlds that feel simultaneously calm, playful and surprising.

My background in physics, medicine and brand design forms the foundational belief of my art practice: when integrated well, left brain logic and right brain beauty together generate very powerful emotions. To achieve this, I explore how color, logic and geometric structures can both drive and evade intuition.

My paintings aim to balance joyful immediacy with discovery, as visually appealing images that seem recognizable from afar but continue to unfold with observation, i.e. the more you look, the more you smile, discover and ponder its meaning.
