Melina Cossío
Mexican artist based in Canada, my passion for art blossomed during my youth. I derive immense joy from creating artwork that not only captures the beauty of nature but also urban and landscapes, delving into the intricate connection between life and humanity. Through my oil paintings, I bring my artistic vision to life, sharing my work on various platforms like social media and exhibitions. Additionally, I offer commissioned oil paintings and acrylic murals.
My journey in the art world includes studying fine arts in Finland and Chile. My specialization lies in oil paintings, and I have honed my skills in creating mosaic murals, acrylic murals and stained glass art. Being an artist allows me to appreciate the beauty of different places, and my emotional experiences during road trips serve as a powerful motivator for me to create dynamic art that blends feelings of energy and nostalgia, reflecting my personality and helping me connect with others.
I call Canada, my home, where I have taken part in several juried exhibitions. My artistic endeavours mainly revolve around commissioned tailor-made oil portrait painting and murals, crafted to suit the unique preferences of my clients.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Inspired by various artists, Melina's art endeavours to explore the beauty in life, she seeks to convey the emotions and sentiments of present surroundings through vibrant oil paintings. Drawing inspiration comes from the pictures she captures on her road trip surroundings. Melina's work creates a soothing and inviting atmosphere, using various styles and techniques, often incorporating vivid colours and intricate brushstrokes. Her process begins with an abstract base of gestural lines and shapes, which she then builds upon using a combination of traditional brushwork to focus on the main idea and a glaze technique to create blurriness. With her artwork, Melina aims to offer a perspective on present life, connecting with others' feelings and bringing and fostering an
appreciation for the beauty found in the world.
Melina's hope is for the collector not just to be drawn in by the objects or figures seen but to be in touch with the universality of the emotions we all feel and the atmosphere that inspired her to create the art piece.
