ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I paint to become.
I paint to heal, be joyful and to evolve into my most authentic self. Painting becomes a language to express beauty, meaning and love.
Using acrylic and mixed media, my art is inspired by emotions, memories, stories and the social issues that have accompanied me throughout my life. My paintings are characterised by vibrant colours and movement. Mostly self-taught, I learn by doing, with the ups and downs that it brings. When I start a painting, I let my creative side overtake me and I trust the creative process to shape my artwork. I create from nothing but my mind, feelings, and creativity. Texture also characterises my art - I don’t think I could paint without it. In some ways, I believe it is an analogy for life's curve balls, ups and downs. It adds depth, beauty and meaning.
I paint with purpose - to evolve artistically and personally and to give back to those most in need.
I am committed to paying it forward and helping others through my art, donating a portion of each sale to local charitable organisations.
My body of work is characterised by an evolving style that reflects my own artistic and personal journey. Defiant of the cookie-cutter norm encouraged by mainstream and commercial artwork, I approach my own creative process as I do life, with open arms and no judgement.
