Nadija Szram
Vancouver based artist, Nadija Szram has been creating art since retiring as a Special Education teacher where she put into practice the knowledge of how color affects the brain, specifically in remediating learning issues in children and adults. Involved with art from an early age, which includes art history, running an art gallery, organizing shows and selling art, has lead to the present day passion of creating art.
Inspired by the colors and textures of the natural world as well unseen worlds, Nadija strives to have the viewer have an experience with the art by adding texture, layers, and modern materials with reflective qualities and techniques that add movement and energy to the art. Most of her artwork will reveal different views in the changing light of the day.
In the last year Nadija has had two gallery shows and most recently has been working steadily taking commissions for portraiture, figurative and seascapes as well as a dog portrait.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
The art that I create is about having conversations between colors and evoking moods in the body and being. Texture, dimensionality and color shifting that mimic nature, according to different lights of the day, also factor into each piece of art. I strive for the viewer to place themselves into the artwork; this process is called embodied cognition, in which mirror neurons in the brain turn things like action, movement and energy you see in art into actual emotions you can feel. The viewer can be elevated out of the ordinary and find a resting place from worldly issues. An outcome can be a peek into a higher aesthetic, reflecting the beauty of the universe that connects us all. Intrinsically I feel that this is the way that I can best contribute to the ills and injustices that plague humanity.
