Naghme Amin

Naghme Amin is an Iranian-Canadian visual artist based in Ontario whose practice explores the intersection of art, psychology, and the inner world. With an academic background in science and a professional practice in psychotherapy, her work is shaped by a deep interest in perception, emotion, memory, and the unconscious.
Working primarily with large-scale, highly textured and vibrant paintings, Naghme creates visually immersive works that shift between abstraction, symbolism, and intuitive expression. Her paintings often incorporate layered surfaces, dimensional elements, fluorescent colour, and details that reveal themselves gradually through sustained viewing and changing light.
Her work has expanded beyond individual canvases into The Fluid Gallery, an evolving immersive installation concept in which paintings are experienced collectively through space, light, movement, and music. Her installations have been presented in public and festival environments in Toronto, including the Toronto Wellness Festival at Mel Lastman Square.
Across both individual works and installations, Naghme's practice invites viewers to slow down, look beyond the immediate image, and discover how their own perception shapes what they see.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My work explores the space between what we see and what we experience internally. Drawing from my background in science, psychotherapy, and visual art, I am interested in perception, emotion, memory, symbolism, and the unconscious—and in how the same image can evoke entirely different experiences in different people.
My paintings are highly textured, layered, and often dimensional, combining intense colour, organic forms, abstraction, and psychedelic visual elements. Many contain details that are not immediately visible. I want the viewer to stay with the work, move around it, and continually discover something new rather than understand the image in a single glance.
This practice has expanded into The Fluid Gallery, an evolving immersive installation in which paintings leave the conventional gallery wall and become part of a larger sensory environment. Large-scale works interact with UV and black light, music, space, movement, and live dance performance, allowing the installation to transform over time. Colours shift, fluorescent elements emerge after dark, and the movement of performers creates an ongoing dialogue between the human body, the artwork, and the surrounding space.
I am particularly interested in presenting these installations within wellness, mindfulness, psychedelic-art, and public environments, where art can become an experience rather than simply an object to observe. Visitors are invited to move through the work, slow down, notice their emotional responses, and become active participants in their own experience of the space.
For me, art is not something that ends at the edge of the canvas. The painting, the environment, the music, the moving body, and the viewer become parts of the same experience.
