Parvin Banagar

Originally from Iran, I began my artistic journey in 1982, taking formal art classes and developing a strong foundation in portraiture, anatomy, and still life. Over the years, I explored a variety of artistic mediums, always with a curiosity to learn, experiment, and develop my own visual language.

In 1990, I moved to Japan, where I lived for 11 years. Immersing myself in Japanese culture introduced me to a different way of seeing and experiencing art. I explored traditional Japanese arts, including painting, Ikebana, Japanese paper dolls, and pottery. These experiences expanded my understanding of balance, simplicity, composition, and the relationship between art and everyday life. During my years in Japan, I also discovered my passion for sharing art with others and began developing my skills as an art teacher. I participated in two exhibitions in Yokohama.

While living in Japan, I studied interior design, which deepened my appreciation for composition, space, design, and art history. This background continues to influence the way I approach painting and the way I see relationships between colour, form, texture, and space.

For me, painting is more than a creative practice—it is a form of therapy and a way to enhance the quality of life. Art gives me a space to slow down, explore, and express emotions and ideas that are sometimes difficult to put into words.

I continue to challenge myself by experimenting with different styles, techniques, and mediums. I believe that staying curious and open to new possibilities is an essential part of an artist’s journey. My work reflects this ongoing exploration—a journey shaped by different cultures, experiences, and a lifelong love of learning

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I love exploring new styles and mediums, finding joy in creativity and self-expression. Painting is both a passion and a form of meditation for me—it helps me stay present, reduce stress, and express what words cannot. Through painting, I continue to challenge myself, build confidence, and find inspiration and fulfillment in the process of creating.
