Paula Saslow

Growing up in Buenos Aires with two architect parents, Paula Saslow developed an early fascination with bold shapes, geometric forms, and the interplay of color and space. Surrounded by creativity from an early age, she cultivated a strong visual sensibility that continues to influence her work today. Architecture remains an important inspiration, reflected in her use of strong graphic elements, unexpected compositions, and a balance between structure and spontaneity. Now based in Palo Alto, California, Paula brings a playful, intuitive spirit to her abstract paintings, creating work that is both visually striking and deeply personal.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I paint because I love the endless possibilities of color and form. I'm drawn to bold shapes, unexpected juxtapositions, and the visual excitement that happens when seemingly unrelated elements find their place together.
My paintings often begin with an idea, but I allow them to develop their own direction. I build, rearrange, cover, and reveal, following my instincts until the composition feels both surprising and inevitable. I enjoy the tension between geometric structure and playful spontaneity, between what is carefully considered and what happens by chance.
Above all, I want my work to convey a sense of optimism, curiosity, and joy. I hope my paintings invite viewers to look a little longer, discover something new, and experience the pleasure of seeing the world differently.
