Precious Burger

Precious Burger is a contemporary mixed media artist renowned for her vibrant, intuitive approach to abstraction. Based in Fairfax, VA, Precious works primarily in acrylics with mixed media, creating art that explores the intersection of personal narrative and universal experience, focusing on core themes of resilience, transformation, and profound human connection.
Her artistic methodology is defined by an energetic call-and-response method, rooted in a practice of deep listening to both the canvas and her inner landscape. This process, which she developed partly from her upbringing in nature-influenced West Virginia, involves the dynamic use of color and texture, allowing spontaneous marks to guide the formal composition. The result is a body of work that is both deeply vulnerable in its emotional content and formally resolved in its structure.
After a distinguished 30-year career as an elementary art educator, Precious Burger transitioned to her full-time studio practice. This rich background in arts education profoundly informs her current approach, which emphasizes the importance of process over product and creative discovery.
Precious’s work has been consistently featured in exhibitions across the DC Metro area. Notable solo shows include presentations at the Joan Hisoaka Gallery and the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax (UUCF). She is represented by the Circle Foundation for the Arts (France), where she has received multiple awards, signaling international recognition. Her work has been accepted into juried online exhibitions by HMVC Gallery, Las Laguna Art Gallery, and the Palm Gallery, and she has been featured in publications such as Novum Artis, Penn Journal, and Arts to Hearts.
Committed to continuous professional growth, Precious has been enrolled for the last two years in the prestigious Creative Visionary Program by Art2Life's Nicholas Wilton, maintaining her artistic evolution through the Art2Life Academy. She has also served as an Artist in Residence for Palette 22 and Alton Cottage. Beyond her dedicated studio time, she facilitates art experiences for adults, sharing her expertise and dedication to inspiring creative potential. Precious is an active member of the Vienna Arts Society and Rehoboth Art League associations.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
For me, painting is an act of deep listening—a dual practice that begins by tuning into the color, marks, and texture on the canvas, while simultaneously connecting with the stories deep within my core. This inner connection allows me to bridge past experiences, present realities, and dreams of a brighter future. Working in intuitive layers, guided by this dynamic call-and-response, creates space for surprise, vulnerability, and honesty.
At the heart of my purpose is the desire to channel light, love, wonder, and joy. While my practice explores vital themes like resilience, identity, and connection through cycles of loss, healing, and transformation, these are just some of the stories waiting to surface. The material process itself becomes a palpable record of perseverance, hope, and becoming.
Ultimately, my work is an invitation. While each piece begins with my own narrative, I craft the layered surfaces to encourage viewers to see their own reflections within them. My art is about sparking wonder, offering moments of joy, and holding space for the profound connections that remind us of our shared humanity.
