ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My paintings reflect my lifelong preoccupation with the natural world—they are visualized expressions of my ideas, feelings and perceptions about that world and my connection to it.
What has been persistent in all my work, is my endeavour to impart a sense of presence and personification/embodiment to my depictions of various kinds of botanical growth (trees, vines, flowers).
In my recent paintings, whilst I continue to work with images of plant life, I'm also allowing the language of painting to play a larger role. My process has become more intuitive and spontaneous, and the resulting work is less prescriptive, so that colour, light and form contribute more to the final results.
While my process has changed from my previous work, my goals remain much the same as before—to try and articulate the experience of a life lived amongst other living things.
