The Artist Richard Sy
Richard Sy is a modern contemporary artist known for his Batick and Mangyan-inspired artwork. His art often depicts the early lifestyle of Filipinos, promoting a positive outlook on life and valuing Filipino culture.
Career: Sy has been an artist for nearly 40 years. He previously worked in fine arts in the Philippines before moving to Canada in 2023.
McDonald's Campaign: In August 2025, Sy was one of 17 McDonald's employees selected for their "Made at McDonald's" campaign. His painting, titled Quality, was featured on tray maps and billboards across Canada.
Exhibitions: He has held solo exhibits, including "OBRA" at the Calgary Central Library in November 2025, featuring a "Praise and Worship Series," "Family and Fellowship," and a national award-winning piece.
