Rivalutionary

Riva is Rivalutionary, always "seeing things in a different way." Based in amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton, AB), on Treaty 6 Territory, Rivalutionary is a multimedia artist (photographer, painter, writer and spoken word poet). A camera from an uncle was quite the gift – literally and figuratively; among varied creative endeavours, it sparked a focus on photography. Rivalutionary is strongly influenced by adoptive Saulteaux family (Keeseekoose First Nation, SK), and by Anishinaabe teachings, lived experience and personal connections from Ndinawe Safe House in Winnipeg, MB. Rivalutionary is endlessly grateful for supportive family and friends.
Rivalutionary works have been featured in art shows and galleries in Edmonton, and several pieces are on display at various Edmonton businesses. In May, 2024, The Works and The Places produced Rivalutionary’s “Bridging Light and Time” exhibit, consisting of images in light boxes; the exhibit was extended throughout 2025 and continues to be viewable 24/7 in Edmonton's Rice Howard Way Alley of Light.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
"Seeing things in a different way" – is as much a life philosophy as it is my spiritual, technical, and fun, creative approach. I appreciate the freedom to explore ideas, experiment with different camera and digital art techniques, and play with composition. My sense of humour, wordplay and storytelling frequently appear in my work. Through photography, I love being able to share what I see and create!
