Robert Charles

Robert Charles is a Vancouver-based “Artographer”—a term he coined to describe his fusion of art and photography. His long-running project, A Life in the Day, captures the poetic and often overlooked moments of everyday life through a blend of analog and digital techniques.

Artistic Background and Style:
Originally from Saskatchewan, Charles has called Vancouver home for over four decades. His passion for photography blossomed after attending the Focal Point Visual Arts Learning Centre in 2001, where he earned a diploma in basic film photography and darkroom techniques. He embraces a diverse range of tools—from vintage box cameras, Polaroids , SLR’s to smartphones—allowing him to explore various textures and moods in his work. His style is characterized by moody, atmospheric compositions that evoke a sense of quiet introspection. He rarely repeats the same post-processing method, ensuring each piece remains distinct and emotionally resonant.

Exhibitions and Collaborations:
Since 2009, Charles has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions. His work has been featured on the cover of Event Literary Journal’s 2010 summer edition, displayed in the lobby of the Sheraton Wall Centre in Vancouver, and showcased at the Truth and Beauty Gallery. He has also collaborated with designers and developers, contributing to show suites for new developments in British Columbia and Alberta, and partnered with the clothing brand LegendaryX for their SS15 line.

In 2017 Robert had his own gallery space at Beaumont Studios, as a part of Capture Photography Festival. He has sold to collectors and his work hangs in Europe, Australia, USA and across Canada.
